A bankruptcy paralegal is a paralegal who assists the bankruptcy lawyers in cases that involve filing for bankruptcy.
A bankruptcy paralegal will be the one to do research on the debtor, the creditors, and the property.
A bankruptcy paralegal will interview the debtors, creditors, and witnesses.
They will also have to file documents with the court, such as motions.

Bankruptcy Paralegal Duties:
- Prepare and review bankruptcy-related documents including bankruptcy schedules, motions, and pleadings.
- Prepare and file bankruptcy petitions.
- Prosecute lawsuits relating to bankruptcy matters.
- Research and identify parties in bankruptcy court.
- Research law and statutory requirements for filing bankruptcy.
- Move, dismiss, and prosecute adversary proceedings, including objections to discharge and objections to confirmation of plans.
- Degree in accounting or finance preferred.
Bankruptcy Paralegal Responsibilities:
- Provide support to bankruptcy attorneys in documenting and handling bankruptcy cases, including drafting pleadings, communicating with judges, attending hearings and meetings, and preparing settlement documents.
- Prepare court filings, reviews, and other documents required for the bankruptcy process.
- Complete and maintain required case-related records, including time sheets, billing records, and records of expense reimbursements.
- Track deadlines and project status to ensure completion, and collaborate with attorneys and external parties on resolving legal issues.
- Assist with electronic filing, including preparing and uploading documents via PACER.
Requirements And Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Less than 1 year of experience as a Bankruptcy Paralegal.
- Knowledge of bankruptcy laws and procedures.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills.
