A building surveyor is a trained professional who is qualified to assess and report on the condition of buildings.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Building Surveyor to join our team. You will be responsible for carrying out surveys of buildings and providing reports on your findings. You should have experience in carrying out surveys and be able to provide accurate and detailed reports. If you are a motivated and experienced Building Surveyor, then we would like to hear from you.

Building Surveyor Duties:

  • Supervise the inspection of sites, buildings, structures, utilities, and other physical components to determine if they meet safety, structural, and other health and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with the development and administration of building surveys.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on building inspections.
  • Notify local authorities and agencies of findings of noncompliance.
  • Obtain permits, licenses, and other necessary authorizations.
  • Complete surveys and prepare reports.
  • Coordinate with real estate agents, buyers, and sellers.

Building Surveyor Responsibilities:

  • Oversee complete building surveying work, including foundation surveys, structural surveys, building surveys, and boundary surveys.
  • Perform detailed surveys and drawings, and prepare custom reports for regulatory agencies.
  • Research, interpret, and apply local, state, and federal building codes and standards.
  • Learn and apply new technologies, tools, and software.
  • Train new surveyors and drafters.
  • Perform field inspections, and manage a team of surveyors including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Prepare and submit applications for municipal permits, review zoning and land use regulations.
  • Identify and resolve client and project issues.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Plan meetings, and perform general office administration.
  • Research, evaluate, and negotiate contract and construction documents.
  • Provide advice on building construction.
  • Develop and maintain CAD drawings.

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in surveying, civil engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years experience in surveying, construction, or civil engineering field.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and technologies, and ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of building code and zoning requirements.
