A collections manager oversees a company’s collection of accounts receivable (the amount a customer owes to a company for goods or services already provided).

The collections manager is responsible for contacting customers or clients to discuss account status or payment arrangements.

Collections Manager Duties:

  • Develop and implement collections strategies
  • Oversee the collection process from start to finish
  • Ensure all collections activities are in place and up to date
  • Ensure all collection reports are prepared timely

Collections Manager Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain billing and account correspondence, including past due notices and final demand letters
  • Develop and implement procedures to monitor distressed accounts to avoid late payments
  • Visit clients, collect payments, and attempt to resolve delinquent accounts
  • Measure and evaluate collection performance, and provide quarterly financial projections
  • Research and challenge bad debt and charge-offs

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field
  • 2+ years proven success as a Collections Manager, with knowledge of collection agency and/or collections procedures
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a constant eye on quality
  • Knowledge of jobsite safety practices
