Day Porter Job Description

A porter is a person who carries luggage and parcels door-to-door, particularly at airports and railway stations.

Porters, sometimes called baggage porters, typically work in a team.

When handling large or heavy luggage, porters often assist in a dollying or hand-carting operation.

A porter is someone who is employed to carry luggage to and from hotels, restaurants, offices, railway stations, and airports.

Porters usually work in teams called portering gangs, which operate almost in lockstep; they move baggage, parcels and shopping to and from the airports,

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Day Porter to help keep our office clean and tidy. You’ll be responsible for sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming the floors; emptying the trash; and cleaning the bathrooms. If you’re a hard worker with a positive attitude, then we’d love to have you on our team!

Day Porter Duties:

• Maintain and assure cleanliness of organization’s facilities and equipment
• Maintain and update inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
• Assist office professionals by cleaning offices, conference rooms, and other work areas
• Maintain records on cleaning supplies and equipment inventory
• Perform minor maintenance, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and other work as needed
• Perform janitorial duties such as cleaning carpets, floors, windows, walls, desks, chairs, and lockers
• Unload garbage and recycle bins
• Clean toilets, basins, urinals, and showers
• Clean and disinfect water fountains, vending machines, and refrigerators
• Prepare lunch areas
• Maintain kitchen by cleaning appliances, cleaning windows, and replacing burnt food and garbage
• Clean common area restrooms
• Provide excellent customer service to clients
• Schedule cleaning appointments

Day Porter Responsibilities:

• Transport supplies to and from construction sites, warehouse, and loading dock, using forklifts, hand trucks, pneumatic and electric carts, and other vehicles and equipment
• Clean and organize facilities, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, laundry, and trash removal
• Assist other workers during emergencies
• Follow all company policies and comply with all laws, regulations, and standards
• Perform any other related duties as requested or assigned

Requirements And Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Recent experience working with the public and demonstrated customer service skills
• Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally
• Essential personality traits: integrity, reliability, honesty, trustworthiness, courtesy, and respect
