Engineering Technician Job Description

Engineering technicians or technologists are skilled tradesman who operate machinery and supervise staff.

Although these technicians are critical to engineering projects, they are less involved in design, although they may assist in the design stage.

This enables them to understand the need for advances in technology and take new approaches.

These technicians usually need at least a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology from an accredited institution or Subsidiary Engineering status.

Employers usually prefer candidates with certification in engineering technology.

To maintain their certification, engineering technicians must complete 30 hours of continuing education every three years.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for an Engineering Technician who has experience with CAD software and can help us with our latest project.

Engineering Technician Duties:

• Perform all duties necessary, from conceptualization to analysis, for design of building mechanical and electrical equipment
• Implement and enforce all building codes, standards, and requirements
• Prepare drawings and detail specifications, costs, and estimates for new construction, renovations, and maintenance
• Research, evaluate, and explain all mechanical and electrical theories
• Prepare technical proposals and reports
• Review and analyze mechanical and electrical designs
• Develop and revise mechanical and electrical designs to meet required specifications
• Supervise contractors, technicians, and other workers to ensure accuracy of their work
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Demonstrate exceptional written and oral communication skills
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field required

Engineering Technician Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain documentation, create drawings, and issue permits
• Manage and supervise construction project activities
• Ensure all project specifications and building codes are adhered to
• Manage ongoing communication with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors
• Attract, recruit, and train new employees

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering
• 2+ years of experience as a CAD technician
• Solid understanding of engineering technology concepts and standards, and ability
• to translate them into work instructions
• Ability to develop and successfully implement manufacturing engineering
• processes
• Ability to manage projects and schedule resources
