Forestry Technician Job Description

A forestry technician is a person who works with forests in an organized way.

We’re looking for a Forestry Technician to help us with our tree-planting operation. The ideal candidate will have experience in tree planting and maintenance, and will be able to work independently and as part of a team. Forestry Technician Duties:

• Perform tree maintenance, trimming, and pruning for commercial and industrial properties
• Manage, oversee, and supervise forestry crews
• Manage team and project schedules
• Monitor and report on project progress, costs, and timelines
• Seek out opportunities for growth and improvement by developing new business relationships
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, or local laws and regulations
• Maintain a highly motivated work environment

Forestry Technician Responsibilities:

• Perform field inspections of forests to determine when harvesting is necessary and ensure that harvesting activities do not degrade forests
• Perform ecological, site, and wildlife assessments to monitor forest health and growth
• Gather data on forest height, diameter, biomass, and condition using electromechanical equipment
• Convert forest data to maps, diagrams, and reports
• Provide clients with maps of forest harvest areas
• Work with contractors to harvest trees on forest lands
• Maintain accurate records in database

Requirements And Skills:

• Proven experience as a forestry technician
• Strong knowledge of forestry practices
• Experience in forestry mapping and applications
• Knowledge of forest products industry
• Experience in the construction of trail systems and proper use of trail marking equipment
• Demonstrated experience in outdoor leadership for youth group
