Freight Broker Duties
- Identify, qualify, and negotiate freight contracts
- Oversee all freight activities
- Track shipments and ensure timely receipt and payment
- Decide on shipping route, cost, and service
- Conduct load surveys and inspect freight identifications
- Investigate claims of damage, missing items, or poor service
Freight Broker Responsibilities
- Negotiate transportation contracts with common carriers, shipping lines, and freight forwarders
- Provide clients with accurate and timely information regarding freight movements
- Manage the movement of goods by preparing bills of lading, inventory reports, shipment schedules, and other documents
- Advise clients on freight charges, routing, and freight options
- Develop and maintain relationships with freight forwarders, carriers, and suppliers
- Produce reports detailing freight movement, service, and carrier performance
- Work closely with accounting to manage workflow
- Conduct sales calls, make sales presentations, and attend trade shows and conferences
- Attend committee meetings, events, and in-company training courses
- Make travel arrangements for sales personnel
- Meet with clients and customers to discuss transportation needs and address any customer complaints
- Review and approve sales proposals
Requirements And Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field
- 2+ years freight brokerage experience
- Knowledge of freight forwarding practices and regulations
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Great communication skills; professional, friendly, and reliable
- Strong listening skills
