Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator Job Description

An industrial truck or tractor operator performs a variety of tasks on a factory or warehouse floor.

Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator Duties:

• Operate a forklift or tractor, hauling materials, equipment, and pallets to and from designated locations
• Assist in loading and unloading of materials
• Keep jobsite organized and clean
• Locate materials, equipment, and pallets
• Arrange for use of forklifts and tractors
• Perform physical labor
• Liaise with managers and supervisors on job status
• Remain productive and on time

Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator Responsibilities:

• Operate industrial trucks and tractors, such as forklifts, reach trucks, tow tractors, and pallet jacks
• Operate tractors and trucks to transport materials, materials storage, or materials handling equipment
• Lift, lower, carry, push, pull, and place materials, equipment, and supplies
• Maintain equipment, facilities, tools, and grounds
• Assemble, install, and adjust mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic parts
• Recommend repairs and perform minor maintenance, troubleshooting, and adjustments
• Operate power tools and equipment, such as grinders, saws, drills, and welders
• Shovel and rake snow and remove ice and snow from sidewalks
• Provide operational and mechanical expertise to other operators
• Follow safety, environmental, and company policies

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial technology, machinery operation, or a related field
• 3+ years experience operating industrial trucks, forklifts, and tractors
• Strong knowledge of machine operation and load capacities
• Demonstrated ability to lift and transport heavy loads
