Mechanic Apprentice Job Description

A mechanic apprentice is a trained mechanic who is employed by a repair shop for the purpose of learning the finer points of the trade, gaining experience, and completing their apprenticeship.

The mechanic apprentice program typically lasts one to two years and is often combined with a classroom environment that teaches theories relevant to the mechanical trade.

These theories include mathematics, physics, and electronics.

Upon completion of the apprenticeship, the mechanic apprentice is eligible to sit for formal certification tests.

Mechanic Apprentice Duties:

• Staff and supervise apprentices, trainees, mechanics, and other technicians
• Develop, implement, and maintain training programs
• Develop and monitor quality control, safety, and preventive maintenance programs
• Implement efficient work processes to enhance productivity
• Maintain and ensure proper storage of equipment and supplies
• Review maintenance procedures and suggest improvements
• Train technicians in shop procedures, safety, and any special skills
• Document, track, and resolve all equipment issues
• Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies

Mechanic Apprentice Responsibilities:

• Perform maintenance on company vehicles, trucks, and equipment
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on vehicles, trucks, and equipment
• Perform basic vehicle mechanical repairs
• Ensure that paperwork is completed properly
• Conduct routine inspections on all equipment
• Assist with the ordering of parts and inventory
• Perform basic housekeeping tasks
• Conduct minor repairs to equipment and vehicles, such as changing filters, oil, and tires
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following company procedures and using good judgment
• Follow safety procedures at all times

Requirements And Skills:

• Eligible for apprenticeship program
