Patrol Officer Job Description

A patrol officer is a police officer that is hired or assigned to perform typical patrol duties, such as patrolling streets, stopping traffic violations, reading license plates, or writing criminal citations.

Patrol officers may also perform other police duties, such as processing crime scenes, interviewing witnesses, conducting surveillance, or responding to traffic accidents.

We’re looking for a Patrol Officer to join our team!

Patrol Officer Duties:

• Investigate and investigate crimes and incidents
• Make arrests for crimes and misdemeanors
• Arrest individuals with outstanding warrants
• File reports for cases
• Work in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies
• Monitor traffic and other laws
• Arrest and detain individuals suspected of traffic violations
• Provide escorts for VIPs such as judges, politicians and celebrities
• Maintain security at various venues such as sports or entertainment events
• Maintain security of building, grounds, and grounds
• Maintain security of city’s infrastructure
• Maintain security of trains and subways
• Maintain security of public buildings and parks

Patrol Officer Responsibilities:

• Protect people, assets, and property, prevent and detect violations of the law, and investigate reported incidents
• Participate in community policing activities
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents, businesses, and others in the community
• Maintain and document accurate and timely records, and file reports as required
• Perform traffic control duties, including directing traffic
• Assist residents with lost property
• Assist residents with traffic violations
• Apply sunscreen to residents as needed
• Assist residents with parking issues
• Assist with property maintenance issues
• Provide crime prevention consultation and assistance to residents and business owners
• Assist residents with issues or situations requiring attention
• Work independently, as well as as a member of a team
• Stay informed of police-related issues, training, and trends
• Perform related duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree or qualifying experience
• 75% of patrol shift is non-patrol related
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and 2 years of traffic enforcement experience
• Must have a valid state-issued certification in law enforcement, or obtain one within 6 months
