A progressive care nurse coordinates the provision, education, and evaluation of care for patients with complex needs who require a longer hospital stay, who are hospitalized, or who are receiving hospice care.

Job Brief:
We are looking for a Progressive Care Nurse to provide skilled nursing care to patients in a progressive care unit. The Progressive Care Nurse will care for patients who are acutely ill with a variety of medical conditions and require close monitoring. The nurse will provide care for patients who are recovering from surgery, are on ventilators, and have a variety of other medical needs. The Progressive Care Nurse will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide the best possible care for the patients.
Progressive Care Nurse Duties:
- Build strong relationships with patients and their families to provide the highest level of care
- Effectively assess, treat, and counsel patients with both acute and chronic conditions
- Provide education, treatment, and support to patients, families, and caregivers as necessary
- Treat all patients with compassion and respect
- Understand the schedule, diagnoses, and treatments of all patients
- Proactively identify and mitigate patient issues
- Effectively manage the use of medications, treatments, and procedures
- Conduct patient assessments and physical exams
- Develop and update treatment protocols, care plans, and treatment plans
- Evaluate patient progress and communicate with doctors, therapists, and other healthcare professionals as needed
- Evaluate and document patient response to treatments and medications
- Supervise the treatment of patients
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with co-workers and patients
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for patients, staff
Progressive Care Nurse Responsibilities:
- Current RN licensure in CT
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- 3+ years of progressive care nursing experience
- Knowledge of ICD10 and pharmacology
- Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Requirements And Skills:
- Perform patient assessments, interpret test results, and recommend treatments in accordance with established standards
- Conduct patient assessments to diagnose the condition, determine appropriate treatments, and develop an individualized plan of care
- Perform routine lab tests, diagnostic tests, and procedures, and prepare and record test results
- Provide health education to patients and caregivers
- Provide patients with medication and treatments as prescribed by a doctor, therapist, or counselor
- Maintain and update medical records of patients
- Decide when to refer patients to a specialist for treatment, follow treatment plans, and communicate with specialists
- Perform nursing duties in accordance with policies and procedures, using appropriate safety measures and following CDC infection control guidelines
