Quantity Surveyor Duties:
- Assess the cost, quality, and efficiency of work, using cost estimating software or other estimating techniques to determine project costs
- Document necessary information, such as the costs of building materials and machinery, and the amount and frequency of materials to be purchased
- Evaluate the quality of materials and determine the craftsmen required
- Review blueprints and other documents to determine cost effectiveness and efficiency of construction
- Meet with contractors to determine construction methods and costs
- Obtain permits and other authorizations
Quantity Surveyor Responsibilities:
- Accurately estimate costs, quantities, and durations of projects, using appropriate estimating methods and building information modeling (BIM) software
- Use Cost Estimating and BIM software, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, and AutoCAD
- Prepare cost analysis reports, budgets, and projections
- Work with legal, safety, and scheduling departments to prepare bid packages
- Perform cost analysis, change order analysis, and value engineering
- Manage the project budget and schedule
Requirements And Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, cost accounting, or related field
- 3+ years’ proven experience in a quantity surveyor role
- Knowledge of methods, procedures, and construction cost estimating
- Knowledge of construction estimating software
- Strong knowledge of construction practices and standards
