School Counselor Duties:

• Work with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to address and support academic, social and emotional needs
• Tailor instructional and support services to meet the needs of individual students
• Ensure appropriate discipline of students
• Conduct individual and small group counseling with students, teachers, and other staff
• Develop and implement school-wide programs
• Conduct classroom observations as needed
• Coach and mentor teachers, support staff, and administrators
• Continue professional development

School Counselor Responsibilities:

• Coordinate the delivery of a variety of cognitive/behavioral, social/emotional, and remedial/special education programs and therapies, answering students ‘questions, resolving problems, and referring them to appropriate resources
• Attend IEP meetings, and develop IEPs, including collaborative plans that include necessary support services
• Implement intervention strategies based on individual student needs, applying behavioral and social skills programs
• Assist with individual student data analyses, including progress monitoring and review progress accordingly
• Comply with school policies, regulations, and procedures, and serve as an educational advocate
• Assist in recruitment, selection, and hiring, and onboarding of new counselors
• Cooperate with other school staff and community organizations in an effort to promote school-wide efficiencies
• Understand various school cultures and be prepared to adapt one’s strategies accordingly
• Support, consult, and collaborate with colleagues, and answer

Requirements And Skills:

• Minimum of 3 years of counseling experience
• 2+ years of classroom and group teaching experience in middle school or high school
• Strong facilitation and presentation skills
• Knowledge of child development theories and techniques
• Strong interpersonal skills-Strong written and oral communication skills
