School Psychologist Job Description

A school psychologist, also known as a school counselor or school social worker, works with students to create a positive learning environment.

A school psychologist helps promote student achievement and school success through psychological theories and principles of counseling, assessment, and intervention.

S/he consults with teachers, administration, and parents about student educational and personal problems, and plays a role in the planning and implementation of educational programs.

In school settings, psychologists conduct psychological, diagnostic, and neuropsychological assessments of students.

S/he also works with parents and teachers in coordinating classroom and behavioral interventions.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a School Psychologist who is passionate about helping students succeed and who is excited to work in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students of all ages and abilities and will be comfortable working with a diverse population.

School Psychologist Duties:

• Review and evaluate students, teachers, and other school staff to identify educational needs and develop appropriate programs
• Train staff on various aspects of evaluating and identifying children
• Provide psychological testing, counseling, assessments, and referrals
• Develop, implement, and monitor individual, group, and classroom interventions
• Welcoming new students to school and schools to communities
• Establish effective functioning for students
• Provide support, guidance, and counseling to students, teachers, administrators, and parents
• Deliver special education services
• Continuously assess and revise programs and practices based on results and analyses

School Psychologist Responsibilities:

• Assist children with educational difficulties, including developmental, behavioral, and emotional issues
• Research and report on trends in special education topics
• Provide direct and consultative services, including individual, group, and family therapy
• Provide psychological evaluations and consultation
• Monitor student progress, and draft recommendations for parents, teachers, and administrators
• Assist with the development of individualized treatment plans
• Conduct workshops for parents and teachers
• Develop parent training plans

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology or school counseling
• Obtain and maintain an active license to practice psychology in the state of California
• Strong knowledge of the principles and practices required to work with youth-Strong working relationships and an in-depth understanding of child development
• Outstanding communication skills
• Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines,
