Special Effects Makeup Artist Duties:

• Apply makeup and special effects makeup for film, television, and theater productions
• Apply makeup according to facial structure, age, and ethnicity
• Ensure the makeup is biocompatible for models, actors, and actresses
• Ensure makeup is appropriately applied according to client specifications
• Ensure makeup is durable enough to face repeated usage
• Use specialized and advanced makeup tools and equipment and apply makeup according to client specifications, including color matching and styling
• Maintain proper storage and organization of makeup and tools
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of makeup applications
• Train other makeup artists
• Fully understand and execute artistic vision

Special Effects Makeup Artist Responsibilities:

• Assist in supervising and developing the special effects makeup department to ensure each team member is trained, qualified, and capable of completing all assigned tasks
• Provide general direction to departments regarding special effects makeup
• Monitor and oversee inventory and maintenance of department equipment
• Conduct research to identify new products and equipment
• Develop and maintain department budgets and schedules
• Supervise and coordinate with departments regarding special effects makeup
• Maintain communication with vendors and suppliers, and create purchase orders
• Conduct daily safety inspections
• Train staff on safety and product knowledge
• Supervise day-to-day operations
• Plan, coordinate, and implement special events

• HND in special effects makeup
• Experience in theater and television makeup
• Knowledge of latex and foam prosthetic makeup
• Ability to apply makeup and prosthetics to actors
• Ability to work with models, wigs, and prosthetics
• Knowledge of costume construction and fitting
