Tailor Job Description

Tailors are people who have the skills, creativity and eye for style to design clothing.

While, most tailors work in textile manufacturing, they also work in many other industries.

However, this varies based on whether the person is a self-employed tailor or working for a clothing manufacturer.

Tailors typically start with introductory sewing classes, and depending on the amount of experience they have, many tailors move on to further training.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for Tailor to help us with our latest project. We need someone who is creative and has a good eye for detail. Tailor must be able to work independently and be able to take direction well. If you think you have what it takes, please send us your portfolio and a brief description of your experience.

Tailor Duties:

• Review and approve all client design specifications
• Maintain strict quality control standards across all aspects of checks, passes, and alterations
• Manage all inventory and ordering of materials
• Maintain daily work schedule
• Oversee employee performance
• Handle client complaints, questions, and concerns
• Assist in recruitment and hiring of tailors
• Meet all company minimum requirements

Tailor Responsibilities:

• Create high-end fashion garments using traditional and modern techniques
• Measure customers to determine desired fit
• Measure and mark patterns based on customer curves and measurements
• Use computers to enter customer measurements and designs into programs
• Cut fabric according to patterns
• Prepare garment pieces using tools and machines
• Press finished garments using presses and irons
• Finish garments with stitches and zippers
• Seam garments by hand
• Fit garments on customers
• Mark tags on garments
• Assist in cleaning and maintain work area
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in fashion design or related field
• 2+ years of experience as a tailor
• Excellent sewing and tailoring skills
• Proficient with patternmaking and fashion design software
• Ability to follow patterns precisely and accurately
• Ability to produce high-quality results
