Traffic Marshall Job Description

A traffic marshal is a uniformed official, often a police officer, whose job it is to direct traffic and enforce traffic laws, often at public events.

Traffic marshals are generally armed with whistles, which they use to order people to move aside to allow vehicles to pass.

Traffic marshals are often involved in situations when the flow of traffic must be shut down, such as in the case of a road accident or emergency.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for Traffic Marshall to control the flow of vehicles and pedestrians at construction sites, events, and other locations.

Traffic Marshall Duties:

• Perform traffic enforcement duties to meet goals and policies
• Enforce traffic laws, regulations, and procedures
• Enforce traffic safety rules, including standing and passing laws, stop sign laws, right of way laws, one-way streets, and pedestrian laws
• Maintain records of all citations issued and materials used
• Investigate traffic accidents and other accidents
• Provide feedback to management regarding traffic patterns and problems
• Identify potential traffic hazards and recommend solutions
• Mandate the safe flow of traffic during emergency situations
• Request emergency medical services as necessary
• Help maintain public order at events
• Coordinate with public and law enforcement officials as necessary
• Supervise parking and traffic control at public events

Traffic Marshall Responsibilities:

• Attend to traffic issues, accidents, and violations, and inform police officers on traffic issues and accidents
• Assist police officers with traffic-related investigations
• Assist with parking enforcement
• Maintain painted curb markings and traffic signals
• Maintain, clean, and report damaged street signs and pavement markings
• Provide assistance to residents with non-emergency emergencies
• Assist with traffic control at street work sites
• Maintain street signs and markings, including parking signs, traffic signs, and street name signs
• Maintain traffic lights and sign systems
• Maintain sidewalks, curbs, and gutters
• Maintain street lighting systems, traffic signals, control devices, concrete surfaces and brick surfaces.

Requirements And Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current valid driver’s license
• Knowledge of traffic laws and accident prevention
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Ability to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays
