What is the Types of Feedback?
Feedback is the information that comes from the users (customers) that tells us (the product team) how the end-users (customers) view the product.
Types of feedback
- Formal feedback.
When reviewing an employee’s performance, there are multiple channels through which a formal feedback process can be conducted. Performance management cycle refers to a regular process through which a manager reviews an employee’s performance.
- Informal feedback.
Informal feedback is unscheduled and often unexpected. There is no formal process or procedure to initiate or govern this feedback, it’s not part of a regular cycle and, in some cases, it can be unwarranted or unwelcome.
- Formative feedback.
Formative feedback is important in helping a project stay on track. It is done during a project and can help determine if the project is on track or needs adjusting.
- Summative feedback.
Feedback is both positive and negative. Formative feedback is given to individuals during a specific process or cycle, such as the beginning of a project or cycle. Summative feedback is given at the end of a process or cycle.
- Constructive feedback.
Constructive feedback is a way for employees to receive feedback from their managers, peers, and subordinates. Constructive feedback helps employees understand how they can improve in their current job or career path. Constructive feedback is about sharing information, and employees can discuss the feedback with their manager to receive further instruction. Constructive feedback is a positive and constructive experience for employees.
- Destructive Feedback.
The opposite of constructive feedback is destructive feedback. This is to be avoided at all costs. The negative consequences of demotivating employees likely include reducing employee retention and increasing staff turnover rates.
