Auto Mechanic Job Description

A mechanic is a person trained in automobile maintenance and repair.

Job Brief:

Auto Mechanic Duties:

• Diagnose and make cost-effective repairs on vehicles
• Provide timely maintenance reports on vehicles
• Maintain vehicles by ordering parts, properly maintaining equipment, and conducting regular inspections
• Be responsible for securing, storing, and organizing parts
• Stock parts and supplies as needed

Auto Mechanic Responsibilities:

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to automobiles
• Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with engines and transmissions
• Maintain service records
• Communicate with technicians, customers, and management regarding automotive issues
• Work with sales department to repair damaged automobiles
• Train new employees
• Work overtime and weekends as necessary
• Leverage your mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot complex automotive issues
• Maintain proper tools and equipment
• Prepare and submit job quotes and estimates
• Prepare invoices
• Document and report vehicle repairs

Requirements And Skills:

• 4+ years’ experience as a mechanic
• Knowledge of cars, trucks, vans, and off-road vehicles
• Knowledge of automotive systems and their effect on vehicle operation
• Knowledge of vehicle inspection and repair practices
• Certification from Automotive Service Excellence or similar program
