Bookbinder Job Description

A bookbinder is someone who crafts books for either publication or personal use.

Bookbinders typically create covers for bound books, add pages or fold edges, or construct bindings.

They also may add sewing, embroidery, and watercolor work to make books unique.

Bookbinders work with various kinds of paper and board, including leather, silk, cardboard, and paperboard.

Bookbinders typically choose to use black or blue thread to sew books, but can also use different colors.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a bookbinder who can help us create a custom-made book. We have the design and layout ready, but we need someone with the skills and experience to put it all together. If you’re interested, please let us know.

Bookbinder Duties:

• Load books onto trucks for transport to printers or bookbinders
• Prepare books for printing, binding, or finishing
• Prepare mailings or electronic files for distribution
• Assist in loading and packing books for shipping
• Load, unload, and organize stock
• Reorder supplies as necessary

Bookbinder Responsibilities:

• Create, manage, and maintain bookbindery schedules, including processing and tracking orders, allocating resources, and monitoring production
• Prepare project files for bindery work
• Maintain inventory, order supplies, and track usage
• Perform quality inspections and control production
• Perform other tasks as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

• Finished product and bookbinding experience
• Proven ability to set up and make changes to a bookbinding machine
• Ability to use equipment and hand tools as required
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to work quickly and accurately
