CAD Technician Job Description

A CAD technician uses computer-aided design software to make technical drawings.

They generally create two-dimensional drawings, with curved edges, rather than three-dimensional models.

CAD technicians draw plans, blueprints, and schematics for construction sites and mechanical equipment.

A CAD technician prepares technical drawings that engineers and other technicians can interpret.

CAD technicians use computer-aided design programs to create an image, which may be displayed in three-dimensional space.

CAD technicians analyze the plans created by engineers, and then create technical drawings using the computer programs.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a CAD Technician who is highly skilled and has experience with a variety of CAD software programs. The ideal candidate will be able to take on projects of all sizes and difficulty levels, and will be able to work independently or as part of a team.

CAD Technician Duties:

• Design and draft detailed construction documents by using architectural programs.
• Assist in the design of buildings, spaces, and objects.
• Assist in building engineering projects.
• Provide input and collaborate with designers.
• Assist in carrying out projects.
• Research facilities and plans for major projects.
• Assist with the development of plans.
• Prepare construction documents.
• Manage and coordinate the activities of project teams.
• Maintain records of project activities and costs.
• Edit and revise construction plans.
• Develop and present reports.
• Assist with designing layouts.
• Take notes or record measurements.

CAD Technician Responsibilities:

• Work closely with other technicians, architects, and designers to develop and revise 3D models of structures and features.
• Work with civil engineers and inspectors to review, analyze, and approve 3D drawings of proposed structures and features.
• Review design files of completed projects against client specifications and work orders to make necessary revisions.
• Assist in preparing construction documents, including prints, measurements, and notes.
• Monitor construction progress to determine the efficacy of 3D rendering and documentation.
• Assist in training and educating design and modeling staff on new technologies and best practices.
• Perform day-to-day duties involved in generating and maintaining 3D CAD models.

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
• 2+ years’ proven experience designing and drafting in AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of BIM fundamentals.
• Experience as a design and drafting technician.
• Knowledge of Revit and experience in processing building information models.
