Chief Green Officer (CGO) Job Description

A Chief Green Officer (CGO) is responsible for a company’s environmental and safety issues.

The CGO typically reports to a CEO or executive chairperson.

We’re looking for a Chief Green Officer (CGO) to lead our organization in becoming more environmentally sustainable. As CGO, you will be responsible for developing and implementing our green strategy, as well as overseeing all of our environmental initiatives. Chief Green Officer (CGO) Duties:

• Maintain annual, operational, and strategic plans to eliminate waste, increase productivity, and reduce costs
• Lead company-wide efforts to reduce carbon emissions, use energy more efficiently, and eliminate contamination
• Track and report monthly on greenhouse gas emissions and progress toward goals
• Maintain collaborative relationships with directors, managers, and employees to ensure their collaboration in minimizing waste, increasing efficiency, and reducing emissions
• Use data to assess where improvements can be made and how to implement them
• Identify the potential environmental impact of company activities, products and services, and determine employee training needs
• Monitor all sustainable practices, and continually drive for improvement
• Oversee the development of renewable power, water, and waste reduction practices

Chief Green Officer (CGO) Responsibilities:

• Ensure all company green initiatives support the overall business strategy and contribute to bottom line profits
• Oversee waste management, recycling, and purchasing practices
• Develop and implement an energy-savings plan, including the use of renewable energy
• Identify and negotiate green-energy and energy-efficient or sustainable purchasing options
• Lead environmental health and safety committees
• Maintain data on sustainability
• Maintain green policy documents
• Implement a green purchasing policy for all company purchases

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental studies, or a related field
• 2-4 years’ proven experience in an operations management position
• Strong budget development and oversight of sustainability initiatives
• Excellent ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining organizational control of branch operations and customer service
