Computer Systems Analyst Job Description

A computer systems analyst develops, designs, and implements computer information systems (CIS).

The computer systems analyst designs computer systems to implement or support business functions such as payroll, inventory, personnel, or sales.

The computer systems analyst usually works under a systems analyst, network administrator, or database administrator.

Computer Systems Analyst Duties:

• Ensure the preservation of company data and systems by ensuring that all sites are backed up and working properly
• Develop assessments of future IT needs
• Responsible for system functionality, security, and maintenance
• Assist in evaluating new information systems and technologies
• Identify opportunities for automation
• Oversee the installation and integration of new IT systems
• Manage the testing, implementation, and testing of new software
• Oversee upgrades of computer systems
• Provide training, support, and troubleshooting for systems users

Computer Systems Analyst Responsibilities:

• Develop specifications and design layouts for computer systems, networks, and database systems, coordinating them with clients and vendors
• Develop and maintain SOPs/IDS/SOPs, and maintain QA documentation
• Develop specifications for hardware and software, and oversee and coordinate testing and installation
• Manage the procurement of IT hardware, software, and services
• Analyze database management requirements and database system requirements, and create and implement database systems
• Manage IT project finances, including budget, billing, and invoices
• Manage IT supply chain, including inventory, procurement, and distribution
• Maintain equipment and facilities, including maintenance and upkeep
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology
• 2+ years work experience with information technology as a systems analyst or manager
• Knowledge of LAN/WAN architecture and protocols; experience with network maintenance
• Knowledge of databases, operating systems, and programming
