Criminologist Duties
- -Evaluate information to determine its reliability, validity, and importance and to identify and resolve problems or discrepancies
- -Provide expert insights and analysis of complex criminal justice issues
- -Deliver comprehensive reports and presentations on findings
- -Develop and oversee the implementation of policies and procedures that improve operational efficiencies
- -Degree in a related field is preferred
- -Minimum of 5 years experience
- -Scope of operations: Central Office
- -Experience with public agencies is preferred
Criminologist Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee day-to-day operations of the department, including hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising employees
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that drive crime reduction, detection and deterrence
- Train employees to identify, evaluate, report, and document crimes
- Coordinate and attend training and conferences to stay up to date on all laws and policies
- Communicate with subordinates and superiors regarding daily and weekly crime trends
- Organize, maintain, and store all records related to operations and investigations, including personnel files
- Document all crimes, including how the crime was committed, what the victim suffered, and who committed it
- Improve overall departmental operations
- Identify, investigate, and follow-up on potential fraud activities
- Develop and maintain relationships with court personnel and law enforcement officials
- Contribute to the development and improvement of job-related policies
Requirements and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, sociology, psychology, or related field
- 2+ years proven experience in crime analysis and research
- Strong knowledge of criminal law and law enforcement practices
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong understanding of investigative procedures and techniques
