Fitness Instructor Job Description

A fitness instructor, or personal trainer, is an individual who specializes in helping individuals or groups improve their fitness level.

Fitness instructors teach clients the exercises required to achieve a desired level of fitness.

Fitness instructors provide clients with personal fitness programs, teach proper exercise technique, and motivate people to do exercise.

Clients pay these professionals for one-on-one or group fitness training.

Job Brief:

Fitness Instructor Duties:

• Train according to exercise philosophy, including exercise selection, proper techniques, and repetitions
• Provide various fitness programs, including aerobics, body sculpting, and fitness training for older adults
• Attend group fitness class to provide each member with a safe environment
• Assist members in performing exercises
• Provide motivational support and coaching
• Perform other duties as assigned

Fitness Instructor Responsibilities:

• Train individuals, groups, and classes on exercise techniques, proper exercise form, and nutritional guidance
• Provide individual and small group instruction
• Monitor client form and equipment
• Oversee and maintain safety, cleanliness, and program standards
• Develop and implement training programs
• Provide coaching assistance

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment in 200-hour fitness instructor certification program
• Excellent customer service skills
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to work with a diverse group of people
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to lead group
