Funeral Attendant Job Description

A funeral attendant is someone who helps arrange the funeral, transport the body to and from the funeral home, and perform general tasks around the deceased person’s estate.

A funeral attendant may also help the family choose the plot where the person will be buried, gather and dispose of the deceased’s belongings, and arrange the headstone, flowers, and funeral program.

Funeral attendants help families prepare for the death of a loved one and assist in planning the funeral.

They are also responsible for helping the family come to a resolution about troubling issues such as how the deceased’s remains should be treated, where family members will meet on the day of the funeral, and where family members should go after the funeral.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a funeral attendant who is professional, compassionate, and detail-oriented. The funeral attendant will be responsible for helping to plan and carry out funeral services, as well as providing support to grieving families. Funeral Attendant Duties:

• Assist funeral directors with all aspects of funeral service
• Assist funeral director with funeral arrangements
• Perform clerical tasks as assigned by the funeral director
• Set up and break down facility for funerals
• Assist with selection of casket, vault, urn, and other funeral products
• Assist with cleaning and upkeep of facility
• Provide general customer service to bereaved families

Funeral Attendant Responsibilities:

• Assist with pre-planning and prearrangement meetings, and properly transfer deceased to funeral homes
• Prepare all decedents for transfer including dressing, disinfecting, and massage
• Prepare decedents for cremation or burial, including embalming, dressing, and placing in casket
• Prepare decedents for transport, including preparing decedents for transportation, organizing paperwork, and ensuring decedents are securely fastened
• Clean, disinfect, and sanitize funeral home, including arranging furniture, unpacking supplies, and reorganizing storage
• Clean and sanitize hearse and limousine
• Sanitize, dress, and dress the decedent for the funeral service
• Transfer deceased to the funeral home
• Assist with funeral arrangements, including arranging for flowers, catering, music, and decorations
• Coordinate funeral procession

Requirements And Skills:

• Licensed funeral director
• 2+ years of experience as funeral attendant
• Strong knowledge of funeral arrangement, and competent in standard embalming techniques
• Proven ability to follow rules and procedures
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Ability to pay attention to detail and fulfill
