Kindergarten Teacher Job Description

A kindergarten teacher provides early education and development opportunities for young children (usually 5 to 7 years old).

Kindergarten teachers use creative ways to arouse the interest of young children while teaching core subjects like reading and math.

They teach basic social skills as well, preparing children to enter primary school.

Many kindergartens hold outdoor classes in their playgrounds.

Kindergarten Teacher Duties:

• Develop and deliver content-rich developmentally appropriate kindergarten curriculum
• Maintain and create student portfolios, and record student data on applicable curricular standards
• Assist in admission, registration, and fundraising efforts
• Develop and implement professional development plans for faculty and staff
• Assist in planning special events and school activities
• Participate in staff meetings
• Attend meetings, workshops, and conferences
• Maintain accurate student records
• Maintain accurate and current liability insurance on file
• Assist in child care programs

Kindergarten Teacher Responsibilities:

• Implement daily lesson plans, ensure safety and cleanliness of classrooms, maintain instructional materials, and manage behavior
• Track student progress and ensure attendance and punctuality
• Instruct students on classroom responsibilities
• Conduct parent/teacher interviews and conferences
• Decide on and implement disciplinary actions
• Organize extracurricular activities
• Complete other duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood / K-5 education
• 4+ years experience teaching in a Kindergarten / Prekindergarten classroom
• Strong knowledge of child development, early childhood curriculum, and teaching methods
• Experience with classroom management and discipline
• Strong organizational skills
