Library Assistant Job Description

A library assistant is a person who works at a public library, such as a library assistant at the Middletown Free Public Library, a job I took on in January 2015.

The person who works in the library assistant position is called an assistant in that library.

A library assistant is someone who helps the librarians with library checkouts and shelving books.

They also assist patrons with computer questions, directing them to specific websites or programs, and helping them connect to the library’s databases.

A library assistant is also often the first person patrons see when entering the library.

In order to become a library assistant, a person must finish a library assistant training class.
