Longshoreman Job Description
To unload cargo from railroad cars, trucks, or containers.
Job Brief:
We’re looking for Longshoreman to work on the docks. We need strong men who can lift heavy crates and containers. If you’re interested, please come down to the docks and talk to the foreman.
Longshoreman Duties:
- Plan, prioritize, and supervise work performed by longshoremen
- Perform routine inspections, verify work quality, and issue work orders
- Serve as liaison between companies, workers, and workers’ representatives
- Observe safety regulations
- Review employee work performance and make recommendations regarding disciplinary action
- Comply with company policies and procedures
- Implement company safety programs
- Maintain company equipment, tools, and materials
Longshoreman Responsibilities:
- For approximately 40 hours per week, unload, load, and transport mobile equipment, material, and employees to and from job sites
- Read, interpret, and apply safety procedures and safety signs
- Maintain logs of daily activities, equipment operations and events
- Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Requirements And Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 2+ years proven experience in long shoring operations
- Prepared and undocked cargo from and onto vessels.
- Operated forklifts to load and unload cargo from vessels and trucks.
- Performed quality control
