Job Brief:

We’re looking for Marine Biologist to help us study the ocean and the creatures that live there. Marine biologists conduct research on the behavior, ecology and physiology of marine organisms, including fish, mammals, reptiles, birds, crabs, clams and coral. They may study the effects of pollution on marine life, the interaction between marine life and the ocean environment, and the reproductive and developmental biology of marine organisms.

Marine Biologist Duties:

• Develop and review programs for biological, chemical, and physical studies related to water quality and aquatic habitat
• Develop and execute monitoring and sampling programs
• Develop, implement, and oversee environmental programs
• Provide scientific support to engineering and other technical personnel
• Assist with planning, design, and field investigation
• Provide expert advice on environmental matters
• Provide direction and guidance to junior staff members
• Develop, implement, and oversee environmental management programs
• Develop, implement, and oversee environmental monitoring
• Assist with the preparation of environmental assessments, reports, and plans

Marine Biologist Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and maintain written and procedural marine biological protocols to ensure compliance with state and federal agencies
• Ensure compliance of laboratories, equipment, documentation, and procedures
• Plan, organize, and oversee marine biological studies, sampling, production, storage, and shipping
• Plan and conduct surveys to identify biological resources
• Execute field projects and ship samples to laboratories for processing
• Create and oversee collection of environmental data, including water quality samples, fish samples, and habitat surveys
• Train and supervise marine biologists, technicians, and assistants
• Attend meetings, conferences, and stakeholder meetings
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences (preferably marine biology, marine science, zoology, etc.)
• 3+ years’ proven experience in the marine industry
• Experience in fish and wildlife management, and knowledge of marine ecosystems
