Movie Producer Job Description

The producer is the person in charge of a production.

A producer has many job duties that can include choosing and hiring the director and the lead actor(s), hiring the supporting actors, choosing the locations, hiring the costume designers, setting the budgets, and hiring the technicians who will perform the duties necessary to complete the set.

A film producer is a person who, acting alone or in association with one or more co-producers, originates, produces, finances, distributes and assumes the risks of a motion picture or other audiovisual project.

The person may also be referred to as the production manager.

Movie Producer Duties:

• Manage the hiring, training, and oversight of production staff, ensuring that all projects are completed on time and within budget
• Promote a positive work environment, motivating and directing staff to ensure efficient production and a high-quality project
• Identify trends and obstacles, and develop strategies to minimize problems
• Create innovative approaches for improvement
• Develop, maintain, and regularly update realistic project schedules and budgets
• Communicate clearly and effectively with clients and vendors
• Manage the production schedule, resolving problems as they occur
• Recruit, train, and direct staff and subcontractors
• Perform quality assurance evaluations
• Oversee vendors during production, handling payment issues, estimating, and purchasing
• Perform quality control inspections

Movie Producer Responsibilities:

• Develop and oversee every aspect of a project from script to screen, including story, casting, budgeting, scheduling, shooting, editing, and post-production
• Develop and oversee production schedules, budgets, and locations, as well as oversee day-to-day activities of production personnel
• Ensure that project stays within budget and achieves its creative, creative, and business goals
• Resolve budget overruns, maintain other project records, and collaborate with other departments to devise creative solutions
• Understand and comply with all regulations, laws, and industry standards
• Interview potential cast and crew, negotiate contracts, and resolve conflicts
• Full spectrum of production, distribution, and financing experience required
• Bachelor’s degree
• Previous experience as a producer preferred
• Previous experience as a director preferred
• Screenwriting experience preferred

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• 3+ years’ progressive experience in film production, from filming through post-production
• Excellent people skills
• Ability to quickly adapt to changing circumstances
• Excellent decision making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong knowledge of project budgeting, scheduling
