Network Administrator Job Description

A network administrator is responsible for setting up and maintaining computer networks.

A network administrator’s main job responsibility is to ensure that all computer systems in a network are working.

This includes verifying that hardware components (such as servers, memory, and hard drives) are working properly, that network connections are still active, and that software applications, such as operating system software, are functioning correctly.

A network administrator also ensures that all systems meet company standards for security and performance.

This includes ensuring that all passwords are changed frequently, that firewalls and security scanners are up-to-date, and that backup systems are in place.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Network Administrator to manage our computer network, ensure its security and optimize its performance.

Network Administrator Duties:

• Assist in the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of corporate-level LAN/WAN networks
• Deploy and support related network hardware, software, and systems
• Maintain and upgrade network hardware and software
• Ensure that the network is adequately secured
• Assist in troubleshooting network problems
• Maintain and monitor network performance

Network Administrator Responsibilities:

• Maintain, manage, and monitor all network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless access points, network appliances, and data backup systems, and resolve production system issues
• Research and troubleshoot problems, perform system upgrades, and perform system maintenance
• Manage user privileges and access controls, including setting up and monitoring user accounts, monitoring network access, and implementing network security policies
• Provide on-call support as needed
• Develop and maintain support documentation
• Perform routine network maintenance, including upgrading network software and installing patches
• Maintain all applicable vendor certifications and licenses
• Maintain, manage, and monitor network backups
• Identify and mitigate any potential security issues
• Plan and implement network security policies
• Provide routine network monitoring, including trending and analysis
• Perform hardware installation, upgrades, and maintenance

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field
• 3+ years’ network administration and configuration experience
• Knowledge of network functions, topologies, and routing protocols
• Working knowledge of network management, monitoring, troubleshooting, and configuration tools
• Strong problem analysis
