Production Scheduler Job Description

A production scheduler is the person accountable for planning the manufacturing process.

The production scheduler is responsible for forecasting demand and determining the appropriate production requirements.

This includes determining how many workers are needed, and how much raw material and machinery are needed.

The production scheduler also monitors inventory levels, production, and costs.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Production Scheduler to help us keep track of our production schedule and make sure that everything is running smoothly.

Production Scheduler Duties:

• Maintain current knowledge of industry practices and trends
• Create scheduling strategies and models for effective production, utilizing current software
• Develop and maintain production schedules and schedules for sub-contractors
• Update production schedules periodically as needed
• Prepare detailed and accurate schedules
• Work with management to develop, update, and maintain production schedules
• Maintain effective communication with all personnel involved in scheduling
• Maintain standards of excellence and high productivity
• Provide feedback and direction to help others strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas

Production Scheduler Responsibilities:

• Plan and schedule production activities to meet cost, quality, and delivery objectives, using advanced planning systems and analysis tools
• Coordinate activities with engineering, procurement, quality, safety, shipping, and purchasing departments
• Understand production functions, processes, and interactions
• Direct and coordinate plant operational activities including setup, operation, and optimization of manufacturing equipment
• Maintain and update production plans, schedules, and reports
• Conduct analysis and recommend improvements to production systems
• Conduct daily quality checks
• Manage lower-level production employees
• Advise senior management about production matters

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
• 5+ years experience in production planning
• Knowledge of production methods and systems, and ability to interpret production schedules
• Knowledge of manufacturing methods and facilities
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment
