Roofer Job Description

A roofer is someone who installs, maintains, or replaces roofs.

Roofers typically install, maintain, or replace roofs.

They repair leaks, install new flashing, replace gutters, skylights, or chimneys, and construct new roofs.

They do this for any building that has a roof.

Roofers work on both commercial and residential buildings, performing their labor at times of bad weather.

Roofers must be physically fit and able to lift and carry heavy materials.

Additionally, roofers need to be detail oriented, be good communicators, and work well in a team.

Roofer Duties:

• Assist in hiring, training, and managing a crew of roofers
• Plan and oversee schedules and job completion
• Collect and inspect materials, equipment, and work procedures
• Maintain safe and project specific environment
• Participate in safety meetings
• Assist with identifying problems and making repairs
• Develop, present, and document work plans, schedules, and schedules
• Implement quality control programs
• Effectively communicate with customers, builders, and employees
• Develop, monitor, and maintain policies and procedures
• Oversee safety standards, equipment use, and procedures
• Develop and maintain positive customer and coworker relationships

Roofer Responsibilities:

• Install and repair roof systems including shingles, slate, tile, and flat roofs
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers
• Utilize the appropriate roofing equipment, based on the type of roof being installed
• Design, test, and repair roof systems
• Assess and troubleshoot roof leaks
• Conduct leak and roof system inspections, including attic, flashing, and roof penetrations
• Report to management on health and safety issues
• Provide on-the-job training to employees

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, construction technology, or related field
• 3+ years’ proven experience managing roofing projects
• Excellent knowledge of roofing practices and materials
• Detail oriented, thorough, and quick problem-solver
• Excellent decision-making skills
