Spray Painter Job Description

Someone who paints using spray paint to decorate things.

A spray painter is someone who operates a spray paint gun or device and a spray can.

They apply paint to surfaces either commercially or non-commercially.

In commercial settings, a spray painter will usually be hired by a company to paint things such as automobiles and industrial parts, but can also be hired by individuals or businesses to spray paint items such as fences, buildings, and outdoor furniture.

Individuals may also choose to do their own spray painting.

For example, a person may choose to spray paint their own car and decorate it with a certain design, or a person may choose to spray paint something in their home like a picture or piece of furniture.

Spray Painter Duties:

• Maintain walls, ceilings, and other surfaces by applying coatings and paints
• Apply paint by spraying, brush, and roller
• Maintain work area by cleaning up spills
• Follow safety precautions regarding use of paints and solvents
• Prepare surfaces by sanding, cleaning, and priming
• Conduct minor repairs when appropriate
• Manage inventory, ordering, and billing

Spray Painter Responsibilities:

• Prepare surfaces in advance of painting by pressure washing, sand and scraping, and cleaning
• Paint walls and ceilings using spray equipment
• Perform touch-up work, correct imperfections, and patch holes
• Use ladders and scaffolding to reach high areas
• Mask off windows, doors, and other surfaces
• Use drop cloths to cover floors, fixtures, and furnishings
• Dry brush woodwork and ceilings
• Measure and calculate materials needed and appropriate quantities

Requirements And Skills:

• Must be experienced in the use of a variety of materials and tools
• Experience with all types of painting
• Experience in painting wood, metal, and plastic
• Experience in spray painting
• Experience in using ladders, scaffolding, and lifts
• Experience in painting concrete surfaces
