System Security Expert Job Description

A System Security Expert is a person who helps an organization assess their system security risks and implement effective security controls.

System Security Experts can be part of an organization’s IT department or security team or they may have a non-IT focus.

System Security Experts work closely with their organization’s security team and CIO to identify vulnerabilities within their IT infrastructure.

They analyze current security measures in place and recommend improvements, as well as recommend security controls to protect systems and data privacy.

System Security Expert Duties:

• Ensure that IT hardware/software is utilized to prevent unauthorized access from unauthorized individuals
• Develop and implement security policies, standards, and procedures
• Track and update system security logs
• Meet with organizations to ensure compliance with security policies
• Create and maintain security documentation for system access requirements
• Develop and conduct security training
• Monitor system utilization for unauthorized changes
• Create and produce reports on system activities
• Research, interview, and perform background checks on new hires
• Perform all necessary system maintenance

System Security Expert Responsibilities:

• Decide how to best secure systems and networks, based on security policies, industry standards, best practices, and risk tolerance levels
• Investigate, triage, and resolve security incidents and vulnerabilities
• Implement and maintain system-level security, including implementing standards and procedures
• Evaluate facilities, plans, and policies to identify potential weaknesses and vulnerabilities
• Write documents, policies, procedures, and plans to manage system security
• Monitor system security performance, and provide feedback to management

Requirements And Skills:

• Proven experience as a systems administrator
• Strong understanding of network security principles
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
