Trauma Surgeon Job Description

A trauma surgeon specializes in diagnosing and treating injuries, diseases, and disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems that occur after an accident.

Trauma surgeons treat patients who may suffer from lacerations, fractures, or burns; spinal injuries; amputation; severe head injuries; and serious internal injuries.

Trauma Surgeon Duties:

• Implement and oversee trauma surgical procedures, including pre and post-op care
• Interpret surgical plans, algorithms, and outcomes data, ensuring adherence to protocol
• Develop and implement clinical plans and guidelines
• Recommend new and alternative procedures or equipment to address new patient treatment needs
• Staff, train, and evaluate all trauma surgery staff
• Review surgical outcomes, ensuring improvements in patient care quality
• Develop and implement protocols and policies

Trauma Surgeon Responsibilities:

• Board certification in Surgery
• 3+ years trauma surgery experience, including 1+ year of trauma center experience
• Experience in operative procedures, general trauma, critical care, trauma resuscitation, and trauma research
• Knowledge of trauma center policies, procedures
