Tunnel Engineer Job Description

A tunnel engineer is an individual responsible for the construction of underground tunnels.

A tunnel engineer manages the design and construction of underground transportation infrastructure, such as highways, subways, and tunnels.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Tunnel Engineer to work on a variety of tunneling projects. The engineer will be responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of tunnels.

Tunnel Engineer Duties:

• Design and operate underground structures and tunnels
• Develop detailed plans and specifications
• Use computer modeling tools to plan and design projects
• Perform hydraulic, hydraulic modeling, and geotechnical analysis
• Hire, train, and retain staff
• Coordinate with contractors and consultants
• Supervise daily operations
• Promote safety
• Record, track, and analyze progress

Tunnel Engineer Responsibilities:

• Assist during construction and review of all tasks related to tunnel construction and alignment
• Perform review of all construction documents and assist the project managers in directing the work of all contractors
• Conduct quality control during construction, including review of specifications and drawings, and assisting with construct-ability reviews
• Improve construction processes and efficiencies, including the development of instruments, tools, and databases
• Provide technical guidance, support, and training to project managers, superintendents, and tunnel construction laborers
• Perform budget reviews and report cost plans to upper management

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Extensive project and contract management experience
