Biology Teacher Job Description

A biology teacher teaches animal science, ecology, and biology in a high school or college setting.

A biology teacher may teach general biology, anatomy, physiology, botany, zoology, microbiology, or ecology.

Biology teachers often instruct students in lab experiments that bring theory into practice.

They may also have administrative duties such as grading papers.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Biology Teacher to join our team of educators. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching Biology at the high school level, and will be able to engage students in active learning. The ability to integrate technology in the classroom is also a plus.

Biology Teacher Duties:

• Develop lesson plans and content for various classes, ensuring appropriate resources are available
• Provide instruction based on the academic standards set by the school
• Communicate with students, parents, and administrators
• Monitor student progress, communicating with parents
• Encourage student involvement in various school activities
• Develop working relationships with other teachers, students, and parents

Biology Teacher Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver curriculum for 8th grade biology course
• Plan and deliver instruction for the 7th grade life science course
• Organize and conduct field trips
• Develop and maintain quality instructional materials, including class lectures and homework assignments
• Plan, organize, and administer student assessment
• Create and maintain student records

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field
• Knowledge of life science and biology
• Knowledge of teaching approaches, curriculum, and teaching methods
• Experience teaching high school biology
• Experience with AP Biology a plus
