Dog Handler Job Description

Dog handlers are individuals who are trained to assist dogs in rescue missions and other types of military operations.

Dog handlers typically work with canine military working dogs (MWDs), which are dogs that are trained in the military to perform a variety of tasks such as tracking, detecting, and guarding.

Along with MWDs, dog handlers also work with service dogs, which are dogs trained to perform tasks related to an individual’s disability or medical condition.

Handlers work closely with MWDs and service dogs, driving them around on missions and teaching them new skills

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Dog Handler to work with us at our kennel. The ideal candidate will have experience working with dogs, be able to handle them in a variety of situations, and have a strong interest in animal welfare.

Dog Handler Duties:

• Train and handle dogs for security, surveillance, detection, and rescue purposes
• Proactively search for suspects and locate victims
• Train dogs to detect explosives, narcotics, and controlled substances
• Track dogs during post incident investigation
• Perform routine maintenance on dogs
• Monitor the physical condition and well-being of dogs
• Update records in proper databases

Dog Handler Responsibilities:

• Provide essential support to senior dogs, including walking, feeding, cleaning, and exercising
• Assist with groomer and bather duties, including washing, cutting, and drying coats
• Manage schedule based on dog’s needs
• Prepare food according to prescribed diets
• Maintain a clean and safe environment, including picking up excrement
• Assist with miscellaneous duties

Requirements And Skills:
