Early Childhood Educator Job Description

The early years of childhood are largely regarded as the most important in a child’s development.

Therefore, early childhood educators play a critical role in the development of children and in society at large.

Early Childhood Educators (ECE’s) work with young children and their families to support the development of a strong social, emotional, and intellectual foundation.

ECE’s work in a variety of settings, such as family child care, child care centers, Head Start, and out-of-school programs.

Early Childhood Educators spend a lot of time with the children in their care.

They assist with care routines, organizing play time, and providing opportunities to explore the world around them.

ECE’s also serve as an advocate for children.

Early Childhood Educator Duties:

• Develop and implement lesson plans and objectives for preschool and kindergarten levels
• Provide individualized attention for each child
• Manage and oversee all students
• Evaluate students’ progress and development
• Maintain a safe and clean environment
• Assist parents with child’s progress

Early Childhood Educator Responsibilities:

• Provide developmentally appropriate care, education, and therapeutic services to children ages 6 weeks to 5 years
• Develop and implement lesson plans, and collaborate with other staff to plan and implement appropriate therapeutic activities, including behavior management and play activities
• Oversee physical and behavioral health issues while implementing behavior plans
• Respond to and resolve parent, teacher, and administrator concerns
• Assist with cleaning and sanitizing classrooms and play area
• Assist with planning and implementing field trips
• Answer phones and greet children and parents
• Assist with preparing for and participating in meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education
• Previous experience teaching 3-5 year olds
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team
• Ability to lesson plan and manage classroom activities
• Ability to build relationships with children, parents, and fellow
