A journeyman lineman is an individual who has completed an apprenticeship program and is qualified to perform various maintenance and construction activities.

The journeyman lineman is authorized to work on or near the electrical distribution grid and is often licensed by the local electrical utility to perform various tasks on or near the electrical distribution grid.

Journeyman Lineman Duties:
- Provide support during outages and emergencies
- Work with engineers to troubleshoot problems
- Develop and implement training programs to maintain new employee qualifications
- Assist in installation of new or upgraded equipment
- Perform regular preventative maintenance on all equipment
- Evaluate operational performance and make recommendations to improve areas of weakness
- Recommend safety improvements
Journeyman Lineman Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of skilled electrical work, including installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and components
- Understands and follows manufacturer’s instructions and procedures, as well as other approved methods, for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems
- Performs a range of moderate-to-difficult tasks, including shop wiring, conduit bending, cable pulling, inside wiring, and conduit pulling
- Installs, repairs, maintains, and tests wiring, equipment, electrical distribution and fixtures
- Installs, repairs, maintains, and tests fixtures, fittings, and wiring in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings
Requirements And Skills:
- Journeyman lineman license
- Experience with 400, 800 and 1000 volt systems
- Seasonal electrical maintenance and diagnostic skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to learn and perform new tasks and responsibilities quickly
- Ability to work without supervision
