Mental Health Technician Job Description

Mental health technicians work with people who have mental health problems and facilitate their treatment.

Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) help people with mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia.

They do so by monitoring and assessing the client’s condition, initiating treatment plans, and assisting with therapy sessions.

MHTs also help clients maintain a regular routine, communicate with family members, and adhere to treatment plans.

MHTs work in a variety of facilities, including hospitals, mental health clinics, and private practices.

Most mental health professionals are employed by hospitals, clinics, or private practices as salaried employees.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Mental Health Technician to provide care and support to people with mental health conditions. You’ll be working with a team of mental health professionals to provide high-quality care and support to our clients.

Mental Health Technician Duties:

• Support and help clients to achieve their personal, educational, social, vocational, and emotional goals
• Help clients to develop and maintain independence and self-esteem
• Provide group and individual counseling
• Develop and implement treatment plans
• Provide direct service to customers
• Provide social work case management
• Follow up with clients as needed
• Work with other professionals involved in a client’s care
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, and related disciplines
• 2-4 years of experience working with psychiatric patients
• Valid Driver’s License

Mental Health Technician Responsibilities:

• Perform diagnostic evaluations and treatment under the supervision of a licensed mental health care professional
• Assist clients, families, and caregivers with navigating complex mental health care systems
• Perform medication reviews, take vital signs, and assist with ADLs (life skills)
• Assist with administrative tasks, such as document filing and inventory keeping
• Assist with program development, record keeping, and client communication
• Maintain confidentiality of client information and comply with all laws and professional ethics
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field
• Experience in social services, mental health, or substance abuse settings
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment
• Ability to work effectively with clients
• Ability to provide direct care to clients
