Nutrition assistants work with Registered Dietitians (RDs) to provide nutrition counseling to patients.
Nutrition assistants help RDs assess patients’ nutritional needs, identify barriers to eating a healthy diet, and develop and implement individualized nutrition and health management plans.
Nutrition assistants also educate patients on lifestyle changes they can make to improve their health and help them make the right food choices.

Nutrition Assistant Duties:
- Assist with nutrition education
- Assist with fundraising and community outreach efforts
- Design, plan, and execute programs
- Administer nutrition services
- Assist with inspection and maintenance of facilities
- Assist with planning, organizing, and conducting workshops, classes, and special events
- Refuse and dispose of food in compliance with established policies and procedures
- Assist with training of student kitchen staff
- Adhere to uniform and personal appearance standards
- Maintain good working relationships with students, staff, and parents
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Nutrition Assistant Responsibilities:
- Work with kitchen staff and customers to provide healthy, tasty, and appealing meals
- Maintain cleanliness of cooking surfaces and refrigeration equipment
- Stock and replenish food supplies, including salt, sugar, cooking oil, flour, and other dry goods
- Stock and prepare meals according to standard recipes and cooking methods
- Transport food to serving areas, and retrieve food from delivery area
- Clean, sanitize, and dispose trash
- Ensure that daily production goals are met
Requirements And Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in community nutrition, business administration, or related field
- 2+ years’ proven experience in nutrition and food service management
- Good computer skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of basic nutrition principles
