A pediatric medical assistant is an individual who provides care to patients under the supervision of a physician or surgeon.
In order to perform this role, a pediatric medical assistant is required to have a high school diploma, a certification in medical assisting, and a state license.
Pediatric medical assistants work with their patients on a one-to-one basis, coordinating and assisting with the care of patients.
They document patient information, take patient vital signs, and prepare patients for medical examinations and procedures.

Pediatric Medical Assistant Duties:
- Provide high-quality, compassionate medical services to children and their families
- Receive, record, and report patient and family information
- Perform various exams, including vital signs, temperature checks, and weight
- Perform invasive procedures such as injections and venipuncture
- Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs)
- Assist physicians and nurses with procedures
- Perform initial patient evaluations, including review of medical history
- Perform diagnostic testing, including blood tests
- Coordinate with other healthcare professionals to provide continuity of care
- Assist in diagnostic and surgical procedures
- Monitor patients during and after examinations
- Obtain specimens and vital signs
- Dispose of used needles and sterilized items
- Clean and sterilize medical instruments
